Dr. Gonzalez has been in practice at San Antonio Community Hospital since 1989. He is certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology, as well as the National Board of Echocardiography for Perioperative Transesophageal Echocardiography, which is an advanced diagnostic technique used in cardiac patients. 

Dr. Gonzalez is a native Californian who graduated from Montebello High School with Honors in 1976. He attended Loyola Marymount University and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, with minor in English in 1979. He then attended the UCLA School of Medicine and earned the Doctor of Medicine degree in 1984. 

Dr. Gonzalez' internship was in Internal Medicine at Wadsworth VA Medical Center in Los Angeles. He completed a residency in anesthesiology and a Fellowship in Cardio-Thoracic Anesthesia at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Torrance in 1988, serving as Chief Resident in 1987-1988.

Dr. Gonzalez academic achievements included several research projects during residency that resulted in scientific paper publications. He received many honors such as the Golden Cart Award at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, is a member of Sigma Xi Scientific Research Society, and was published in Marquis Who's Who in the West and in Strathmore's Who's Who. 

Besides being an excellent anesthesiologist, as evidenced by his selection as a " Favorite Doctor of San Antonio Community Hospital " in 2006, Dr. Gonzalez has remained very active in the hospital and departmental affairs, and has taken on many leadership roles over the years. He has served in these capacities at SACH:

-Chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology, 1991 and 2001

-Director of Cardiac Anesthesia, 1989-2003 and from 2006 till present

-Chairman of Critical Care Committee, 1992-1994

-Member- Education Committee, 1994 and 1997

-Member- Nominating Committee, 1999

-Member- Quality Assurance Committee, 2000 and 2001

-Member- Medical Executive Committee (MEC), 2001- 2006

-Chairman of Credentials Committee, 2001-2006

-Member- Credentials Committee, 2008 and 2009

-Chair- MEC ad hoc committee for Peripheral Angioplasty Privileges criteria/credentials

-Chair- MEC ad hoc committee for redefining and rewriting Code of Ethics and Behavior for the Medical Staff

-Chair- MEC/Credentials' ad hoc committee for establishing protocols and privileges for Physician Assistant practice

Dr. Gonzalez was co-founder of the San Antonio Ambulatory Surgery Center in Upland, California. He has been a member of the Board of Directors and Chairman of the Quality Assurance Committee of the Surgery Center since 2000.

Dr Gonzalez was Managing Partner of UAMG in 2007-2008

Dr. Gonzalez has also been involved in statewide organized medicine. He has served in the following capacities with the California Society of Anesthesiologists:

Dr. Gonzalez is married and has two grown sons. When he finds some spare time, he likes to write, to read, to fish and cook his catch while watching his favorite movies.
