Intrascalene Block – This local block is frequently performed prior to surgical procedures involving the shoulders.  The anesthesiologist often with the use of a nerve stimulator uses a tiny needle to locate the nerves providing sensation to the shoulder.  By administering numbing medicine to the area right next to these nerves pain sensation to the shoulder is blocked.  Intrascalene blocks provide very good pain control during and after surgical procedures on the shoulder.
