Bier Block
(IV regional) – To administer this block the
anesthesiologist first places a tourniquet on the extremity to
be blocked. A small intravenous catheter is then placed in
that extremity. After inflating the tourniquet the
anesthesiologist administers numbing medicine to the extremity
via the intravenous catheter. This block numbs the extremity
and is suitable for procedures on wrists, elbows and rarely
legs.
